Internet and Windows 98

I have an older computer with Windows 98 that I'd like to set up for my kids to use. I'm having a problem with the internet connection though. I'm using IE and I can get to some websites but other websites say This Page Can Not Be Displayed. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to what pages can be displayed and what can't. For instance, I can get to CMN but I cannot get to ehow.com. Any reason this might be happening?

Additional Info: I'm using a Wireless Router (linksys) with a laptop connected wireless-ly (no problems there) Computer with Win 98 is wired

My guess (although quite remote) is that you don't have the latest version of IE, flash, and Java installed. Can you tell whether or not the "bad" url's are even resolving to the site and the site itself is telling you "no go"?

Sometimes the HTML code will call for the detection of certain versions of things in the browser.

It has IE 6 which (I think) is the latest version you can have on Win 98. As far as flash and Java I don't know because I can't get to those websites to download them :-(

Have you tried a different web browser? Perhaps firefox or a few others?

Actually I got it figured out, it was a problem with the DNS settings. All is working now, thanks!

I started to ask that in the beginning but I thought to myself, "Nah... she's gotta be doing DHCP on a standard dsl modem.. that's a no-brainer!"

But then I would look like a chauvinist saying "HA! That's why women shouldn't be allowed to work computers!"
