I have a Infocus In2102 projector with rs232 port for remote control. I have windows vista and I dont have Rs232 port on my computer. I brought a USB to Rs232 Cable. Did anyone know for a windows base software to control this projector?

What kinds of things are you looking to control? Simple on/off? Or something more involved?

Programming RS232 is a big part of what I do for a living... mostly truck scales, but I'm working on some projector stuff. Others may also have some software but if not I could take a look at writing a tool for you.

I only want to put the projector on or off. Can you make me a windows program that only do that for my projector? Remenber, I have a USB to RSs232 Cable in order to control the projector.

Try this:

I cobbled this together pretty quickly and it hasn't been thoroughly tested. It requires the .NET Framework 2.0. After installation, you will have a program group called "Sanctus Software". Check in there.

For your projector, I made the serial settings the same as those declared in the projector's documentation. You may have to change the Serial Port Name if your USB-to-RS232 cable doesn't map to COM1. It's a drop-down list so you can just pick whatever is in the list.

After picking the Serial Port Name, click "Connect" and then go to the "Projector Actions" tab to click the Power On and Power Off buttons. You can verify that the program attempted to send something by clicking on the "Text Sent" tab. You should see PWR0 for Power Off and PWR1 for Power On.

What I Haven't Done:
- Saving/Loading settings
- Minimize to the Notification Area by the Clock
- Error Logging (most errors are ignored)

What I Haven't Tested:
- RS232 loopback to ensure that the command is being sent to the serial port
- With your model of projector (as I don't have that one)
- On a 32-bit OS
- On Windows Vista
- With a USB to RS232 cable

I want to see first if this will work for your setup. Then I can make some improvements on it.

Hello Shayward:

Thank you for your interest in help me with this problem. I download your programm and it setup very fast. I connect the projector but it don't response to the commands. I connect the projector to a RS232 port and trye USB to rs232 cable but still don't response. I want to know how many pins I have to connect to the cable rs232, I see that in the specs the projector only used 3 pins(it's that correct?).

I noticed something I found strange in the documentation:

A NULL MODEM cable is different than what you probably have. In fact, you would almost never use a NULL MODEM cable to plug a projector into a computer. But this projector says it needs one.

You may need something like this to plug in between the RS232-To-USB cable and the projector:

Amazon.com: Slimline Null Modem Adapter, DB9 Male...

So your USB-to-RS232 cable might be just fine with the addition of the NULL MODEM adapter.

You could also pick up a NULL MODEM adapter at your local electronics shop. Just make sure that's male on one end and female on the other end. That way it will plug in between your existing cable and projector.


Here's a sure-fire way to see if you can connect to your projector setup:

1. Open Up Hyperterminal (I'm assuming it's still included with Vista)
2. Enter the RS232 Settings listed in the PDF document I attatched to my first reply (I'll repeat them after these steps)
3. In Hyperterminal, type in PWR0<ENTER> or PWR1<ENTER> to turn the projector off and on, where <ENTER> is actually pressing the enter key as opposed to typing in "<ENTER>"
4. See if the projector responds

The serial settings are:

Baud: 115,200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow control: None


If that doesn't work, try changing the Baud to 9600. I find it strange that any device these days is using 115,200 for the default baud rate.

If that doesn't work, try Hyperterminal on a Windows XP box that has a serial port built in. I don't 100% trust the RS232 to USB cables.
