MediaShout replacement for older laptop - ideas????

Well, If you read some of my other posts, you have noticed I am having some problems with MediaShout. As they keep adding features, we have more problems (videoloops "bumping", etc.).

My church's Media Ministry has a VERY miniscule budget. I am not sure when we can upgrade our hardware. Is there any other presentation software that will work well within the specs of our current laptop:

Sager NP4060 1.5 GB RAM, Intel 2799 Mhz chip, WinXP Home, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, DirectX 8.1 (purchased 4 years ago)

Will SSP or some of the others work WELL with this configuration???

We really like text fade-transitions over video, but may have to give that up to get videoloops without bumps i would have to regress to MediaShout 3.2 and an early build of it to avoid the bumps.

I just want to see what other options are out there.

SSP has a requirement for DirectX 9, as well.

Can you just run an older version of MS? OR MS Express?

If not, I think I'd try EasiSlides or OpenSong until you can upgrade the hardware and get back to the worship software of your choice.

I'd also reccomend MediaShout Express.

Sunday Plus

You should give Sunday Plus a try. Let me know if I can help you out.

Minimum requirements from the website (I added Vista as I have many people running Sunday Plus on Vista)

CPU Speed 500mhz P3 or equivalent
512 Meg Ram
1 Gb disk space
Win 98-Vista
2 graphics cards or a dual output card.

To run text over video
CPU speed, fast as you can afford
Ram 512 MB or greater, again, the more the merrier.
Windows 98-Vista (but watch out for 2000 as they had some dual output issues there.
Graphics: 2 cards or dual output card with at least 64 mb output but again, the more the better

And we do have the site license included for free.

We don't do the text over video fade though. Sorry.

Mike

I expect that any updated software is going to have the problem - I'd suggest that you contact Media Shout and ask about downgrading to 2.5 or express until you can upgrade your hardware. I've always found them to be more then reasonable.
It seems like every 10 months hardware and software undergoes major revisions.

EasyWorship has one of the lowest system requirements. You might check it out. It works on Win98Se up to Vista. I've seen it work on video cards with 32mb video ram, but it works best with 64 minimum. The computer will need DirectX 9.0c installed on the computer.

I also switched from MediaShout to EasyWorship because my laptop was struggling to keep up. Haven't had any problems with EW yet.

Owch, that sorta sucks on the 4 years old thing. We bought state of the art from Dell 5 years ago, and it's still running MediaShout pretty well. We're actually putting about 1.5k/year into a laptop replacement fund because the videocard/mobo/lcd/ribbon cable keeps crapping out on the Dell, and I've had to send it in twice for 400.00 repairs, which... is the cost of a new machine unfortunately. We hope to buy a fully decked out Lenovo when the laptop dies again. Let me know if you need an employee friends and family discount, I have one for IBM.

Conversion is a LOT of work

I just want to warn you. We just converted from Sunday Plus to Media Shout and converting all of the songs was a LOT of work so you need to factor that into your decision. Sounds like your best bet is to go to an older Media Shout release or Media Shout Express.

Note that we have had very good luck with refurbished Dell notebooks which have been in the $400 range. If you can handle that much then upgrading would be your best bet.
