Hi Fredandfred. I have been doing tech in my church for the last 16 years. I was thrown into it and never left. We had a small church with a large building, and our sister church in the next city had a large congregation with a small building. We ended up merging into one church at our building. The merging went well (thank God); however I now found my self as an assistant director with the deacon in charge of the media form the other church (after being the sole person for most of my 16 yrs experience). I would try to make change or suggest ideas to better the service; however the ideas were shot down, or I was never backed up (fully) by the deacon. Things were happening in the booth which made me uncomfortable and I felt were not condusive to an atmosphere of worhsip. I eventually left the tech booth and spent my time in the congregation. It was a hard thing to do, I loved serving in the tech booth, but my integrity and relationship with God was not worth the troubles in the booth. I continued attending this church and praying and seeking God for an answer. The funny thing was, that during my hiatus from the tech booth, I was the person everyone went to when there was a problem. Rather than being bitter, I resolved the problems and went back to my role of a worhsiper in the congregation. Eventually the deacon felt a calling to change churches, and I was asked to take charge of the booth again.
I feel for you and know of the hurt and trials that can arise from this, but we as media operators/directors are in charge of creating an atmosphere of worship for others, but first and foremost we need to be worshipers ourselves. I urge you take a season of rest from the tech, pray and seek God for an answer. If it is His will for you to continue the tech ministry, then he will move the mountains that are hindering you view. He will move the mac guy (no offensee mac people) out of the way.
I agree with one of the previous posts about consulting your pastor. I understand that you feel he sides with everyone else and your words have no meaning, but don't go to him in the attitude of "I am right", yet go to him with the importance of needing a person in charge of the tech. Someone needs to have the responsibilty and accountability for this area of the church.
I will be praying for you,
God Bless
Mike
