| Isn't that basically what WoW (Windows on Windows) is?

(Sorry for the World of Warcraft reference)From my understanding (which is admittedly limited), WoW isn't a full emulator so much as it is an available API stack of the 16-bit functions available in Windows 16-bit but not a full emulator. But in general, I'm saying that it might be time to shift away from what has become an absolute mess of an API, go to something more modern, and support all of the old APIs through full emulation. In other words, drop WIN32 entirely. ... and I thought Vista had a few rewrite issues... ![]()

| I do think they should move forward with 64 bit and leave 32 bit behind.

| They are heading that direction. The big issue is all of the 32-bit applications out there. Especially games. But if we want more than 4GB of RAM then we have to go 64-bit. From what I understand, the next version of Windows Server will not ship with a 32-bit flavour.

| A couple of weeks ago we needed 3 desktops in a hurry. We went to Best Buy and found an entire aisle setup with 64-bit Windows machines, there were only a few 32-bit ones on display, occupying part of another aisle, mostly higher powered ones. (Our application runs ColdFusion and I wasn't about to invest time figuring out whether our version works with 64-bit, so we bought from Dell instead.) Your 64-bit wish is coming!!! |
