Setting up Church Shoutcast or other alternatives

Hello all, have a quick question or two. Internet streaming is something we have been wanting to do for a while but I am really starting to look into it. What I have found that looks like it will do the trick on our free budget is setting up a shoutcast server. On our sound machine is running Ubuntu so I would probably be using VLC to stream to the server. I would like to stick to VLC because I stream our service over our lan and I have seen you can stream to a shoutcast server with it. Has anyone used shoutcast for streaming here recently (we have a Linux webserver for our website)?

If anyone has any other free alternatives that works on Linux for both the client and server side and can be played in a web browser I'm open to suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have copyright licensing to stream any copyrighted materials.

If you use copyrighted music, that will cost you more than your "free" budget.
