Unhappy flash for web

I have encoded a flash (flv) file for the web and it looks very good for the small file size. Interesting enough, the only program I can open it in is Adobe Bridge. When I linked it to an html file and uploaded it in dreamweaver, I could not get the file to run, when i clicked on the link,it asked me if I wanted to open or save, I clicked open and it opened a new page, but rather than running I receceived the same dialog box asking me to either save or open. I have the flash player on my computer. Do I need to embed flash rather than just link to it or am I missing something here.

Please help.

Hi Bob,

If you want someone to be able to watch your FLV file from the Web, since you already mentioned using Dreamweaver, the easiest solution is to go to the Insert menu in Dreamweaver and select Media then Flash Video (at least that's where it is in CS3). Otherwise, if you just want to be able to view the FLV from your PC, the VLC player [videolan.org/vlc/] (sorry, I can't post links, yet; think of it as a replacement for Windows Media Player) can playback FLV files.

Hope that helps!
Jason

flash for web

Thanks Jason,

I should have known flash would be handled differently. In terms of playing in computer Adobe Bridge works just fine.

Bobalou,
You can also download free FLV players. Just drop your FLV file into the player and it plays automatically. In fact, I can drop the FLV file directly on the shortcut on my desktop and the player will open and play the file automatically. I don't know the name of my player or where I found it. Just do a search for "Free Flash Player". Best way I know to quickly view your FLV file.

I would have to second the VLC media player. If you work alot with video type stuff this will be a priceless addition to your computer, reguardless of whether you are a mac or pc guy. It is one of the first things that I install on any new computer I am using. VLC will play just about ANYTHING! Ohh did I mention that it is free
