screen capture for video

I want to do a screen capture of SongShow Plus in action so I can create a how-to tutorial video for our media team. I know how to capture still images but not motion. I also know there is a motion capture software called Camtasia. But that's $300. Does anyone know if there an open source or cheap option?
Thanks
Sue

Check out CamStudio. It's free, open-source and works acceptably in most instances that I've used it.

WINK is another free program that is great for writing tutorials. You can find it at http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

Thanks so much guys (& gal) I really appreciate it. I think it will be so much more useful to have a SongShow Quick Start guide on video rather than on paper for my team. Maybe that's just because I'm a very visual learner!

Have a blessed day
Sue

hi, maybe so late. But I've used Quick Screen Recorder for several years. It's cheap, works on pc and has always worked great. I recommend it to many friends.

I tend to go the VERY low budget route and use the s-video out connection to record it into the NLE.

Thanks for taking the time to add to the discussion. I've been using camstudio and it works fairly well but it can only capture about 10 minutes before it gets funky on me (may be a symptom of my vintage computer more than a software issue, though) I'll have to look at quick screen recorder.

Another option is Snag-It. It isn't free, but it is reasonable at less than $100 Snag-It offers many options I like. You'll find it a techsmith dot com.

Don't overlook Jing! from Techsmith, too - it records so easily and is not very expensive at all.
