Hi.

It depends how you think about zoom. I view zoom as 'zooming into' a subject - therefore x1 is no zoom, x2 is making something twice as big ... and x12 is making something twelve times bigger than it is if you stand where the camera is. If you want to view it the other way round (i.e. x12 is max and you zoom out to x1 - or no zoom) that's fair enough!

We use zoom quite a lot for kid's talks where you are showing things - but we have an overflow area where it is necessary for people to see what the preacher is holding. However, for a creche ... set and forget is probably the simplest (which is what you are recommending anyhow).

Similar with pan/tilt - although we have preachers who go 'walking' on a regular basis which keeps the video guys on their toes! Pre-set a few locations which are used on a regular basis (if you have them).

The cable we used between the camera and the PC was just standard CAT5 cable with the appropriate connectors on both ends.

Software is available for a Windows PC from http://www.camerapad.com/moving.asp for about $30 US. This software supports the Sony EVI-D30/31 camera. We thought about writing our own software - but for $30 it wasn't worth it!

Mounting the camera 'upside down' (i.e. hanging from the bracket) means it doesn't get all dusted up. Once mounted out of harms way you will not get many people cleaning it and it will get dusty!

Let us know how you get on.

Dave
