Frustrated and need help

ok, i was asked to take over converting sermons to DVD, nothing fancy but i accepted, the church has a nice sony cam, with a 30 Gb drive in it, data is transferred by USB 2.0

amazingly there is no fire wire port, i need to know how to get the sermons off the HD and onto my storage array, i plug in the usb drive and it does nothing but look silly

thanks
T.

The USB is for still images. Keep looking for the Firewire port. What is the model number?

I agree, model number would help us look up info on it.

Since this unit has a built in hard drive, it may only be accessible through USB and there may be no firewire. I realize that's not normally the case.

I'm surprised plugging the USB in does absolutely nothing. Does it show up at all?

sony dcr-sr40 30 gb hd, HDD, and no FW port, and it is to pull movies off or stills too it is supposed to link up automatically, very sweet cam, it is HD and 16:9 squeeze or 4:3 native, i dont like the squeeze it looks unnatural

OK - the USB is only for transferring still images. You use the writable DVD disk to transfer video to your PC. They probably have some software to allow you to do some basic editing and (full sized) DVD creation.

It needs the "Image Mixer For HDD Camcorder" software that came with the camera (I thought this camera had a writable DVD drive).

Page 21 and 22 of the owners manual. There's a software application that came with it to transfer via USB.

I'd be interested in what format it stores the data. Normally editing MPEG video is like watch glaciers move (slooooow). They probably provide some software to do some basic editing.

The software is available HERE
