How to show the passing of time?

I'm getting ready to start that 10th anniversary video for the pastor. I have pictures and videos spread out over the 10 years and I'd like to do something that indicates we're going backwards or forwards in time.

The spinning odometer type thing might work. The other one that I also thought of is the technique they used to use on the old Batman TV series to show "and now for something totally different" ... where the whole scene spins real fast for a second or so.

Thoughts? Comments? Ideas? Footage?

I just assumed that this would be sought out before it was done... wasn't trying to suggest anything immoral or illegal!

There's also the flipping pages of a calendar or a time lapse (or fast forward) of an analog watch running...

or the way that they fast forwarded in Mr. Holland's Opus by showing news shots from specific time periods - of course that was easier because they were jumping ahead a decade at a time...

Similar to Ebbersmom's post...

You could film an analog clock....input your video (however long you decide to film) and then run the video backwards.

Like everything in the "Batman" television series, that effect is a little hokey. I say either clock advancing or you could do the whole fast sunrise, sunset thing like on Survivor.
