There's now a color version of the Far Side parody:

There's also a more boring^H^H^H^H traditional image on the subject of getting people to get their pictures taken for the church directory:

And yes, that's me in the upper left photo. I don't have the beard at the moment.

from the unable-to-leave-well-enough-alone department

Another Far Side parody, available in B&W and color:

We'll probably end up using one or more of these, as we're still having problems getting people to get their pictures taken. We have a pro in the congregation (he used to do weddings and portraits) and are giving people the option to get prints or data of their photos, but we're still near 50%. I'm thinking that the B&W ones will be more striking for an announcement loop (since most of those are chock full o' color) but the color ones are nicer to look at and would work better during spoken announcements.

Thanks Gene! I saved these for possible future use. We are at least 1 year away from our next update.

Thanks

Sorry for the slow reponse - these are great ideas. I loved the cartoons and we will be using them. The video ideas were great as well, but I've had to move on to other video projects

Anyway, we will be using the stills during the announcement rolls.

I really appreciate it!

John

Wish I'd had these ideas 5 months ago! Our directories were finally delivered last week. We used a combination of announcements & personal phone calls to everyone on the roster to beg & grovel for people to get their pictures taken.

Lifetouch Church Directories

We tried doing a directory in-house and it is just too much work and too expensive. We did so because the last company we used pressured our families and the directories took for ever to get back. But I have found there's no better way to do a church directory than to use an outside company IF you choose the RIGHT company. That's the key. We chose Lifetouch and couldn't be happier. They have online signups, automated reminder calling, vertical signup banners to use next to the signup table on Sundays, and much more. We got the best response ever for our church directory and I know another church that got 100% more families in their directory with Lifetouch than they did in their last directory. Our families were given great service and beautiful photography and not one complaint about pressure selling. We even got an updateable online directory from Lifetouch that we keep updated and add new families as soon as they join the church. Lifetouch is even coming back throughout the year and photographing our new families to help keep it current. Lifetouch is oiur choice for all future directory programs.
