using atem televison broadcaster + old gear

Hello community,

last year we have started to extend the experience for our youth conference and bible week with video, 2 live cameras and 2 pc inputs (1 for song, one for clips).
As mixer we have had the SE800DV.
But the chroma keying was very bad that we could use it with just big letters and a shapre aroung.

This year we want to do this:
Using the 2 live cameras and the Se800 DV mixer, --> SDI
SDI into the ATEM broadcaster
Propresenter --> into atem
Clip PC into atem.
Atem broadcaster --> component (blackmagic) to the projector.
Does someone tried already the quality of the ATEM broadcaster and video overlay?
So we use than a chroma key which is set everytime over the live video and than switching easily.
We are not using just the atem, because than we need too much converters (analog to digital).
Will this be working well?

And if someone have maybe a queue sheet how you make the service running (with video, clips ect..) that is also very good.

Thanks a lot,
Martin

Hi Martin

Are you thinking of the ATEM Television Studio??
You should use luminance keying instead of Chroma key. What is your exact problem with the keyer in the SE800? I have seen luminance keying on them working very fine.
If you plan to insert the ATEM switcher, you could end up with some latency issues.
Your SE800 will ad at least 1 frame, the ATEM 1 frame, SDI to component converter also 1 frame, and the internal scaler in your projector will also add 1 frame.
Total of at least 4 frames latency will be visibel on your screen.

Here is a link to a previous thread about cue sheets / rundowns. I posted there a show run down from a telecast at the White House.

Can Somone Post an Order Of Service?

Honestly it should work fine. I don't have experience with television studio, but we use a 1 M/E and we use the chroma keyer too. ( correct me if I'm wrong, but if you use a luma keyer, then you can't have drop shadows or outlines around your text, because it would get keyed out).

We too use the atem's component output and it works okay... You do lose some quality when using the component output to the projectors.

Here is a video of one of our sermons. About a
Minute into it, he reads a bible verse that we keyed in with propresenter and our ATEM.

One more thing... I'm not sure how compatible this would be with your mixer, but have you looked into this?

Hope this helps,

Nate

Hello altogether,

thanks for responding.
Ok regarding the 4 frames i will check good input!
And what about the lumiance key function i have read in wikipedia ect...
is real a good option for song text over video?
How we should set it up than, background black and text wite?
All things that is not black will be filled with movie?
Unfortently we are using propresnter with windows so no direct alpha keying.

You are so good with inputs thanks a lot guys that helps in preparing and not running in those issue when setting up and rehearsels and we could concentrate to the kids and tell them the love of God and have fun!

I am open for any other inputs and answers thanks!
Martin

I am sure you can make a grey shadow on text in propresenter. It is possible in easy worship.
If you have white text with a grey shadow and black background, you can use luminance key in your SE800. That will make the text more visibel, especially when keying over a background with high brightness.

Sorry, just found out that the SE800 can only do chroma key. Have you tried a white text with grey edge and a color background? that should work.

Hi this year we want to use the atem television studio as chroma or lumina give a keyer and the se 800 just for camera switching and as one input intp the atem.
Because with the se800 it was just possible to make hard cut when switch the second video level.
But overall it seems that it should be running ok, i will give a feedback once we have made the experience.

have a blessed week,
Martin
