Edirol ISS 506 or Panasonic HS-300G or?

Hi all, we are planning to start video ministry. We are think to get mixer that have HD-SDI input and analog component at the same time. We come out with either Edirol ISS 506 or Panasonic HS-300G, If there anyone experience with these device, kindly give us some feedback and if you know other mixer that will perform the same function as these two that also under $7,000 please let me know.

I prefer to have multiple output, preferably HD-SDI, component, DVI and HDMI (HOPING).

We are planning to record this directly on DATAVIDEO HDR-40 instead of any PC or MAC to cut the cost. what do you think?

Thank you for your answer and inputs

I'd go with the Panasonic HS-300G, but maybe that's only because that's the switcher I use.

But seriously, by the time you equip the ISS 506 with the HD-SDI input and output cards that you'll need to do what you want to do, you'll have spent as much (or more) as you can find the Panasonic for. And the Panasonic has a much more traditional bus/T-bar layout.

I don't know that you're going to save much going with the Datavideo HDR-40 over a Mac. You could probabaly find a good used 8-core Mac Pro and a BlackMagic card for about the same price, and then you'd have a full-blown capture and editing solution.

petereit, you always give me a prompt reply. Thank you.
For the mixer, in your knowledge is there any other brand and type that have similar spec with the HS-300G?

For recorder HDR-40 is about $1,900, how much is Mac pro and a black magic - I though is way more than that like 8,000 maybe? Well another reason is my editor has a Mac book with Final cut pro. That the reason with I am thinking to get the recording from the HDR and edit with Mac.... But again I am so new in this and this is system sound perfect "IN MY HEAD" but maybe not perfect in the real life, that's why I try to get as much as feedback from you guys.

Again many many thanks

The only reason I went with the Panasonic HS-300G is because I found someone selling one used for a GREAT price. If we had the money to buy new, I probably would not have bought the HS-300G -- I would have at least pushed for the 400 model with the multiviewer built in.

You'll just have to do your homework and find the best deal that works for you.

If you buy a brand-new Mac system and max out the specs, you can spend $8,000, but that sounds pretty high to me, even for new. But I rarely buy new. I have seen 8-core Mac Pro systems on Craigslist for around $1,000 and used BlackMagic Decklink cards under $500. Again, you just need search the web and do your research.

HD Switcher - Relatively Cheap

In case anyone is interested, I found another used Panasonic AV-HS300G switcher for sale:

From Creative Cow For Sale Forum:

We have a Panasonic AV-HS300G in perfect operating and physical condition. It was used in a corporate setting and they decided they needed more inputs. It comes with the Optional HD Component Analog Board for five Y, Pb, Pr inputs (three BNCs for each input). We will offer a 5 day inspection period. Asking $4225 or best offer.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like to purchase.

Thanks
Rob Liebl
