Opinions welcomed

Greetings

Thought I'd try to get some feedback from fellow church video folks on the little vids I'm making thus far. I know I need to improve, but figuring out where to concentrate my improvement efforts is the big thing.

Some duplication between the two sites, vimeo of course being the better quality. Thanks in advance for your time and feedback.

edit: apparently I can't link them directly without a bunch more posts, so I'll work on that and link them whenever I've hit the post quota.

I watched your demo reel on Vimeo, and I really like alot of your stuff. I'd like to know how you got the time-lapse shots though. My church is going to be building a new sanctuary in the next year or so, and I want to document as much of it as I can, and that is one thing I want to do, a time-lapse of the construction. Did you have a camera that has that specific setting where it only records every so many frames? Or did you just let it go and speed it up in editing? Anyhoo, is there any specific video you wanted feedback on? Then I can make sure to check it out.

jumpy, the time lapse was from an HVX200, which can be set up to do exactly that. I've also used interval recording modes or just straight shooting sped up ~2500% on other cameras not so equipped. Some digital still cameras also allow interval modes, and then you can string the still images together into a movie called an image sequence. In a pinch, you can just set up a point-n-shoot on a tripod and send some durned fool out there to snap a pic every 30 seconds (I have been the aforementioned fool on certain occasions).

As to what I was asking comment upon... I think just getting some peer review over some of the different projects I've done so far, constructive criticism, etc., not fishing for compliments. No specific project I'm focusing upon. I know I have weaknesses, and if this is my calling, I'd like to iron those out.

Nice collection of videos.

I didn't get to watch everything, but overall I would suggest working on color balance, natural sound and tighter framing.

For example, a few shots on the Effort School Video (the interviews) were washed out. Try adjusting exposure at the black and white level before moving on to the mid tone knob. Also there were many opportunities to feature natural sound breaks with the kids in the classroom and when they were playing. Natural sound breaks are a great way to keep the pace of the story moving while helping the viewer to experience the activity. Finally, I love the dialog set up for the 5 love languages blind dat scene, very funny. The head shots needed to be tighter, the eyes and facial features should be the dominate focus of the shot. Then you can use the two shot to move through the scene without the viewer loosing the feel of the scene.

You have a very diverse reel, thank you for sharing,
Cale
