Still looking for a camera

But now people are complaining the DVDs are blurry. I can't understand, our Canon elcheapo ES2500 is only 16 years old. Anyways, our camera is mounted on the front edge of our balcony which puts it 40feet from the pulpit, so a 20X plus zoom is mandatory. Our little Canon has a 22X zoom and goes just wide enough to include the entire stage, which is needed for choir programs, and zooms in for nice close ups. My question is, is it worth going with an older used cam like a XL1 or a new mid range consumer cam like the Panny TM90/SD90. We don't record on the cam, it goes straight to the DVD recorders, and is on a tripod and run by jr high volunteer kids. I was looking at the new upper end consumer cams, but they all have 10X zooms only.

Finally picked up a used XL2 to replace our aging camcorder. Night and day. Not even worth talking about the differences, everything is that much better, well worth the cost(actually cost about the same as a new upper consumer cam)
