Difference between Sony PMW-EX1 and PMW-EX1R?

We're trying to figure out the difference between the older PMW-EX1 and the new PMW-EX1R. What exactly was changed in the newer version? Did the older version camera perform pretty well?

Audio issues with the EX1 were corrected with the EX1r. I would only consider the latter version if audio is a non-factor for your application. This seems to be a widely known problem (but all I've heard is "bad audio"), so there could be some good deals on the EX1. I have the PMW-EX3 which is basically the same camera with added features (and no audio issues)... and have heard the audio complaint directly from EX1 users who really liked the camera otherwise.

Maybe a few other revisions, but audio the biggest change. Only other disappointment I've heard is that the weight of the EX1/EX1r make it awkward for handheld shooting... but I use a shoulder bracket even with my EX3. I love the EX3 image, and a friend who also shoots with a comparable Panasonic model prefers the quality of the Sony.

Here's a pretty good article on the improvements. Nice camera, made even nicer. I use an EX1 at work and it's great.

One made by SHAPE of Canada. They had a good price point. But in truth, I just shoot from the shoulder without it for sake of expediency. It's time-consuming to take it on and off the bracket for the way I shoot. I go back & forth between handheld & tripod.
