new with q's about video switching

Hello, I came across this site for some answers about video splitting. We have a celing mounted projector (toward front) with 2 transceivers and 2 cat 5 cables into the celing. One goes back to the sound booth(over 50ft) that is not used at the moment. The other is about 20ft or so away where we have a laptop. Now the question is if we wanted to split that signal to another projector facing the back so the choir can see) what would be needed? I have some ideas, but I wanted to make sure. Would I need a amplified switch, or just split the cat5 to the rear projector? Thanks.

I know Kramer makes a Cat-5 (twisted pair) DA. Don't know what manufacturer your particular baluns are, but I'm sure they would have a Cat-5 based DA also.

Hi, thanks would the da from svideo.com be good? It says there are switches on the front, but we don't want to select, we want both on at the same time.

Doesn't seem like where I'd go. They're in McAllen, which is, well, McAllen.

Does that mean you're running "S-video"? If so, you just need two channels of something like an Extron throwdown DA and breakout adapters.

In any event, I'd look somewhere more reputable like Full Compass.

We use a extron da to handle the extra feeds for projectors. I just contacted the local distributor and purchased or most projectors have an monitor out which you can send vga over cat 5 to your other projector which would be suppper cheap and still work

This can be a very cost effective approach. but a couple of cautions on this. The monitor out on a projector is usually simply a parallel connection of the VGA input thus it only gets what comes in on the related VGA input of the projector, if you are using any other inputs on the projector (component, DVI, composite, S-Video, etc.) those do not get converted and passed through.

Also, since these are typically simply a loop through connection, it is a passive split so the cable length to the second projector is effectively that of both the run to the first projector and the run to the second projector. This is usually not a problem if the run to the second projector is fairly short, but if the run is of any length the image on the second projector can be degraded compared to the image on the first projector.
