Camcorder 300W Fresnel Light

Hi,

Does anyone know a good place to buy Fresnel Lighting. We are looking at getting used ones. Maybe there is church that would like to sell their used ones.

Not sure where to find a 300-watt lamp for a Fresnel, though.

I have never seen/used one that wasn't at least 500w, and usually they were 1k. What brand are these that you are looking at?

They also make a very nice 18,000 Watt fresnel. Just one should be enough for most churches.

There used to be a 250W lamp that worked in theatrical 6" Fresnels. It had the same base as the BTL, but was not a halogen, so it was rated for only 50 hrs. Now you can only get 500W and 750W lamps for those.

I assume you are talking 6" Fresnels, like the Altman 65Q. I've bought a few recently on eBay. Most needed new sockets and cables to make them work.

This is a fairly old thread....I can still get 250W medium prefocus base lamps for a 6" fresnel. They are handy for the small children's church venue with limited dimming capacity.

Word of caution on used fresnels: there are a lot of cheap knockoffs out there that externally look like a regular Altman or Strand unit but have any number of different odd lamp types and some with extremely poor reflectors (like a small flat silver disk).

Most fresnels that use a gy9.5 base type lamp, T25.
You can put in a 300w lamp such as 6874p (philips).
Its a drop in replacement.
300W versions for most 500W lamps are available.

In North America, the most common fresnel lamps (BTL or BTN) use the medium pre-focus base (photo attached). In some cheap knockoffs, you may find a double end lamp. Usually we'll find the gy9.5 bi-post socket in moving lights with arc lamps like the MSD series. Some TV studio fresnels have a medium bi-post lamp that use a G22 socket but those are fairly high end units.
