Trying to Build Multimedia Team

Hi guys, I've been mulling him some thoughts over in my head for a few days now and I've got a bit stuck. Let me start off by saying I am the leader of the multimedia team at our growing church (currently about 150 people). In the team there's me who runs sound and is responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly in the service, and one other guy who runs the song management software and the powerpoint for the sermons.

I've been aware that there needs to be a bigger team for quite a while but I haven't been sure of what to do. I don't mind running the sound every week because I love doing it, but it does mean I cannot have a single Sunday away from the church all year. I'm also concerned for our powerpoint guy as he's been doing it on his own for some months now and it I'm worried it will become a burden for him to go to church.

I may be getting someone on board to help with the powerpoint side of things a couple of times a month, which will be good, but my main concern is getting someone to run the sound. I know that I need someone with a musical ear, and someone that has the patience to learn how to do the job effectively, and I can't think of anyone!

Then there is another issue I'd appreciate some advice on... we have a guy who's offered to help that isn't a Christian. My senior pastor is ok with the guy helping as long as he's not in a place of responsibility, I'm not so sure and I've got some concerns about someone who isn't in tune with the Spirit mixing the band. I need someone who I can leave in charge if I ever go away for a weekend, and I'm not sure this guy fits the bill.

I'm the best man at a wedding at our church in 7 weeks and I really don't want to be running sound at the same time. So what should I do? Any ideas would be appreciated as I'm getting bogged down by all this. Feel free to ask any questions about my situation if I haven't given enough information.

I hear your concerns brother, and agree with them. Burnout is indeed a potential future problem; it might even be a nascent present problem. I also hear your concerns about an unsaved person serving in these critical areas. While I would not want to keep them from being in community with believers, I would be more concerned about their motivation and commitment in a service role.

However, it might be an opportunity to minister the Gospel to that person in a very powerful yet subtle way. I admit, in your situation I would have to approach that one with prayer and seek His guidance.

I know you mentioned that you can't think of anyone. But be assured. God has already thought of the entire plan for your ministry, and the team He wants to build! Some of them are likely not yet at your church - but they will be.

Ask Him to help you find and train those people, then with your leaderships blessing, get the word out to everyone in your church that you are looking for servant hearts to work in the field of media ministry. You may be surprised who responds.

Then you can be about the business of training and equipping them, instead of doing so much yourself. As servant leaders, we must be about the business of equipping others, not always doing things ourselves (Eph. 4:11-13).

With your pastor's blessing, get your unsaved friend to help with the event in seven weeks. Plenty of time to train and acquaint him with your systems, as well as assess his abilities. Let God take care of the rest - let's see what happens!

Thanks for your encouragement. I will give it some more thought and prayer and see what happens
