Setting up a new ministry area: Communications

Any suggestions for setting up a communications ministry? We have in place a newsletter done by the secretary, a web site maintained by a it minstry leader, but no communications ministry. We are a church of 250, very territorial at times, so this is not going to be an easy process. Any ideas, structure, etc. would be helpful in this endeavor.

One thing I encourage is to be sure authority and responsibility ride in the same boat. The minister of director of communications needs to be under pastoral covering with their full support.

That sounds obvious, of course. But it doesn't always happen that way.

If the communications leader does not have authority to get things done, then they are simply a servant, as opposed to a servant leader. Both positions are useful. But a person denied authority to go with the accompanying responsibility will soon be shown as powerless to the people they are supposed to lead.

I pray for God to raise new healthy communications leadership within your church family!
