| The Vision Hey everyone, I would love to see your responses to the following two questions. What is your purpose for serving in the media/technology ministry? What is your vision as the leader of this ministry in your church? Thanks

"To faithfully and humbly contribute to each person's personal encounter with Christ and edification in a manner that is transparent, non-distracting, and unnoticed" My vision for leadership, which was "borrowed" from someone else, is: "A manager is a person who tells you what to do. A leader is someone that you will follow to places that you wouldn't go alone." The church needs leaders, not managers.

| What is your purpose for serving in the media/technology ministry? To serve God and to be a vessel for Him to bring people into church through the technical and artistic gifts He's given me. What is your vision as the leader of this ministry in your church? To build a team of God-committed technical people who by the way they act toward each other and to the challenges presented as part of the technical team glorify God. To purse perfection knowing that we will never attain it, but knowing that in that striving, relentless pursuit of perfection we will, at least, achieve excellence. (I believe the last bit is attributable to either Vince Lombardi or Knute Rockne but I've taken it to heart as my own.) |

| The mission-statementy-thing I put together for our group at church looks something like this: The Media Ministry is a support ministry of the church, for events such as worship gatherings, in the various fields of technical production and multimedia. Most of the things we do are for the benefit of the people who are present at an event (the live audience, so to speak), but we also do some things for people who are not present in the room. We deal with things like sound reinforcement, stage lighting, video projection, recording, and the like. We strive to be transparent in our service, to enhance without introducing distractions. My vision as a leader of the ministry .. I haven't typed that one out yet, so here goes. To enable a group of people, even "normal people", to serve others this way. That nothing is too specialized to not be teachable to a volunteer. To have enough volunteers to set up a rotation so that we don't burn them out. To help them gain the skills they would need to work in this field professionally. To encourage them and be thankful for them. Ideally, to even be able to replace myself -- that there's nothing that only I can do. Interesting .. we had two newbie camera ops this morning: one a high school student, one an older fellow. Both did well. Neat to see different generations working together like that. Oh, and this morning's director? Junior high student who's run lyrics, projection, and camera before. I'm impressed. We may actually be getting somewhere. Cool. ![]() |
