Cold-Recruiting Cam Crew for Special Event

Need to get a live camera crew together for an all-day special event - not church-specific. No existing volunteer base to pull from. Would like to ask for instructor referrals from our several area college media departments - but timing is off with the start of winter intercession. Has anyone had encounters with recruiting and screening unknown volunteers for reliability & skill level in similar scenario?

Though we need to work with volunteers, this will be a dynamic packed-house event & opportunity for young person interested in media career to get some resume-worthy experience - but they "must" have a proven eye for shooting. Resources (besides colleges): area churches, area film-maker network (includes college film students/recent grads though not necessarily Christian), Craigs List gigs (shooting ops listed regularly in our area).

What are your thoughts on do's and don'ts? I always appreciate learning from your experiences and insights.

also-look for Juniors and Seniors in High School-they might have experience shooting live and/or clips for school news, plays, games, etc...

Don't overlook just asking for help at several churches-make a short clip showing how much fun it could be!!!

What about a local community or public access channel in town? You may get a few leads from there.
