Song Select?

Can you Sunday Plus users tell me if you can import lyrics from SongSelect? I've heard different things.

Thanks,
Steve

nope. not directly...

you have to cut and paste the txt file, and then divide it into different pages.

Actually, yes, you can import directly from SongSelect. Simply find the song you want, click the "Save" tab, then load the resulting txt file into SundayPlus. SP will automatically split the file into its individual sections (usually - some things like bridges don't always get split from its previous section). After this, you just have some very minor editing to do to get it to look the way you want it. I do this all the time. Works great!

Sounds like the truth is somewhere between "nope" and "Works great"

I would say having to save the file and then import it is not "directly" and "usually" splitting into sections is not "great".

But I've not tried it myself, so I can't speak to the issue directly.

Well, that's more "direct" and "great" compared to typing the whole song in by hand, or downloading from SongSelect then cutting/pasting from a text file then splitting into sections manually, as one person suggested.

What I meant by "direct" was directly importing the text file the previous post had mentioned directly into SP. That apparently I didn't communicate that. I'm sorry. And to me, not having to type everything out is pretty great. Much easier than any other solution I have. Sure it would be even better to click on something in SongSelect and the file is loaded directly into SP without having to save a text file somewhere, or SP having an integrated SongSelect search dialog and import without going to a web browser, but once the file is saved it's only one extra step to drag and drop the file from the desktop onto SP.

All I can say is, try it. It just takes a minute or so.

I agree completely. That's why I said the answer is probably between "nope" and great.

Actually, I understood completely. No worries there. I guess I would call that an indirect import.

That's good news about not having to split the verses - I guess that's something (the guy who demo'd it for me cut and pasted text files he had typed in and then still had to split into verses).

But it sounds like I was correctly informed that Sunday Plus does not have a database feature?

I haven't purchased yet - I'm just weighing my options. Got spoiled at my previous church with SongShow+ but am not sure I have the right volunteers to jump into that at this point.

I use SongSelect with SundayPlus all the time. And, yes, it does take some tweaking while the file is still in .txt format, but once you figure out all the little details like that, it works, not great, but fine.

Just as soon as you figure out exactly how to format your .txt file so that SP reads it correctly, CCLI will change their format and you have to revise your "tweak-plan" anyway.

I can lay out exactly how I do it -- pm me.

Thanks, Carl. If we decide to go with SP I will take you up on that.

What tweeking do you need to do in the txt file? I've never done that, or had the need to. If anything, CCLI's formatting has gotten a little better recently. I import the file as-is, and it works fine. Occasionally it doesn't split off a bridge or something, but that's easy to take care of in the SP editor (it's usually at the end of the file, so just put in one page break, and it's done).

when I said "nope" i was using media shout as a frame of reference. MS makes it very easy to import from SS, and with sunday plus it's kind of a hassle, but no you dont have to hand type everything.

For ease of building a library from scratch, I give MS a 10, and S+ a 3

A bit of info for training. Song Show Plus has On-Demand Training for free while evaluating via the Internet if you have volunteers in mind. Our church took advantage of the training to get up to speed quickly. All you need is Internet access at home and the basic class is about an hour. Your team can train when they have time. If you purchase you can pick a more advanced class to access for the next year as much as you would like. Hope the info helps.
