| projection as gobos, 3-wide screens Anybody here at CMN doing what's shown at visualworshipper.com? Basically using additional projectors as gobos. Quote:
james tucker mentioned it on another thread. It looks very cool, evocative of the space of some European cathedrals. I'm not sure how well it would work in our space, since we've got a sloped ceiling of darkish wood and relatively short walls, but I'm definitely thinking of trying it. But I'm curious if any of you are doing it or have tried it, and any problems you may have run into. Obviously those images wouldn't change much during a service, if at all. On a related note, the visualworshipper site led me to awakeimages.com. They design some very cool stuff, some more traditional, some edgy, but all of it designed with 3 screens or gobo projection as above in mind (it's still usable on one or two screens, though.) And they're giving away volume 1 of their stuff -- 399 images worth. |

| That image above is very cool! I remembered an old thread sorta about this... 1 Video wall using 3 side by side rear projectors |

| I think Camron, the guy behind visualworshiper.com, is doing some of the most creative visual looks for a church setting. And he's striving to do this on a church budget. He works at Irving Bible Church in the Dallas area. But we're talking with him to come out and give us some ideas for a couple of venues on our campus.

I would imagine you would need VERY good control of stage and room lighting. Visual worshiper is probably the coolest thing I've read about in ANY worship technology(ish) magazine ever. Thanks for the link to the free stills.

| We are looking at doing the same thing Irving is doing, but with large Cyc fabric and also ProVideo Player (the best way to control something like this). The nice thing about this whole idea is that from week to week you can change the look and feel of your platform with literately the click of a mouse... |

| We've done this a couple of times for special services just by sticking a projector on a tall stand in the back of the room. It's gone over incredibly well. Our setup eats about six seats, but washes the entire wall behind the platform with color, image, motion, etc. Total cost would be under $3k if we'd had to buy the tools (including a laptop), but we had everything already in the church. I'm also a huge fan of Awake images. Right now they've got a free set you can download (not sure how long it will be available). You can see a picture of our system in action during an Ash Wednesday service on my blog: Ash Wednesday Visuals It's not a great photo, but the side screens are the other parts of the triptych, they're blown out by the long exposure. Our room has to be kept pretty dark for this to work, but it looks good despite the mediocre photo. Last edited by kerner; Saturday, March 1st, 2008 at 06:01 AM. Reason: more info |

| That's very cool, kerner. It looks like you have a fairly 'busy' wall that stuff was projected on. Is that the case? I still haven't been able to try it (tendinitis in my shoulder has limited by mobility for a while), but we'd be faced with a sloped, dark wooden ceiling for most of the gobo image. But it seems like that's OK for this kind of thing, since it's about shape and color more than detail. |

| On occasions when i have had projectors just sitting there i have connected them to my palmtop and let them run a loop projected on Spandex at the back of the stage. I don't always have projectors available but if enough people bug the right people then they may come up with the funds to make it happen. I've also setup multiple projectors to project on a cyc to create virtual sets for use in theatres. You can do some really cool stuff but you better be willing to fork over some money. crt
