Update paranoia?

Probably for Jason...

This will seem like a rant, but it's really not. It's just my paranoia speaking.

Since we've been a little bit singed (not quite burned) by more than half of our SSP updates during the last couple of years, I'm finding that I'm paranoid about applying SSP updates in general. There haven't been any horrible destructive issues, it's just that many times the new features and functions replace and wipe out features and functions that we've been happily using for some time.

For example, one SSP update about 2 years ago wiped out all of our song backgrounds that we were using with Watermarks. The feature moved, and left us with songs that had no graphic attached. I'm still finding occasional "backgroundless" songs that are left over from that one.

We're currently using one of the mid-2009 versions. I'm wondering what surprises are lying in wait to pounce on me when I finally decide to update to the current SSP version. Any ideas???

Thanks,

Roger

I'm surprised you've had such a hard experience. I've been updating our SSP for the last couple of years on a regular basis and haven't had problems.

Of course, it sounds like you use a different feature set from what I use.

But we've been real happy with the upgrades. Nothing like the version 5.x days.

Of course, I usually will download the beta on one of my other computers and give it a kick.

You may want to post this over on the SSPlash forums and see if George or Doug will respond.

Here's the What's New Details that may be of some help.

The last bullet for each edition is Compatibilty and discusses potential backward compatibility issues.

Overall I agree with you. Updates haven't broken anything, but I felt like the followup work needed to make sure everything was working took MUCH too much time.
