SongSelect and Online Bible Setup

Greetings,

I've been using SSP for some time now, but have never had to do an initial installation of the software. Turns out, I'm rather clueless on how to set up the program to access the SongSelect database or Online Bible database. The church has a subscription to SongSelect Premium, but I don't know how to go about gaining access to Online Bible. Is there software I need to download from either service to make them work in SSP? I'm really at a loss. Your help is greatly appreciated.

First, you should know that the SongSelect 3 database had a seperate license from the rest of your CCLI stuff. The Song Select lyric service is different and will not give you the license you need for the SongSelect database.

However, if you still have a SongSelect 3 license, then you will be ok.

One Online Bible and SongSelect 3 (if you have a license) are installed, rerun the SSP installation and it will find those on your computer and select the correct modules to install. You should be able to scroll through and see the selections and turn them on or off as needed.

If you have unlock codes for other versions of the bible in Online Bible, then you will need to go into Online Bible and unlock them and get them added to your library.

Well then...

Here I am, amidst the chaos, still trying to get this program up and running. Just today, I finally got Internet access hooked up here in the sanctuary, so here I am on my projection computer.

I have Online Bible, but I still need a lyrics database. What are the alternatives to SongSelect 3.0, seeing as how it's been conveniently discontinued?

There aren't any alternatives. You just need SongSelect Online:

One of my favorite things about SongShow, and one of the primary reasons I convinced the church to purchase a copy, was the capability to browse the entire database of songs right there in the program, without having to actually import each and every song one at a time... Without SongSelect 3.0, does SSP no longer have such capability? Or am I just oblivious to something?

Mr Lightman. I have a few questions.
In your first post you alluded that you have had SSP up and running previously? Is this correct.

If you had it installed (on a older pc) did SongSelect work ?

As has been mentioned Song Select 3.0 was the last version of the software sold. It was replaced by Song Select Lyric Service which is online at CCLI. The song database had gotten way big for updating via floppydisk/CD's.

I still have SS3.0 installed on my church computer. It does expire each year but all I have to do is call CCLI and get an updated license code. They still do this. They just do not sell the software anymore.

The Online Lyric Service which cost is small also gives you the license for SS3.0.

The catch is You will need the last installation Cd/Disk with Song Select 3.0 to install on a new computer. Which I think you are doing.

The Database will be the same as the last updated cd you received. But it does allow you to look up old songs pre 97/98? without having internet. But if you have interenet then that nulls the need for SS3.0 .

The lyric service has all the songs online. and once you import the song from CCLI lyric service whether it is SSP or EZW or ??? the song will be in your database locally from then on.

Hope this helps.

Ebroach,

The church I used to work for back home had SSP and SongSelect. Unfortunately, being almost a year later and 850 miles away, I don't have access to the SongSelect disk. However, I really appreciate the suggestion. Even if I do have to import the songs one by one, it's still a considerable improvement, so I'm not that worried about it.

Thanks again to all of you for the help.

SSP is "depreciating" it's support for other song databases. Go to this New Features page and scroll down to "Deprecated plug-ins" for more details.

They do have an XML import module, but they seem to be heading toward only supporting the native SSP song database, as indicated by the "Depreciated plug-in" announcement.

SongSelect Lyric service works well and works even better now with the January 2008 edition, with support for song parts not previously supported, e.g. pre-chorus.

If you have internet access right there, it really does work well. Not quite as slick as the SongSelect database was, where you could pull them right up. But you can insert and display them quickly.

I will also add the SSP now allows you to leave the download utility open until you are done downloading songs through CCLI. It used to close after each song. This will make it a bit easier to add multiple songs to the SSP Database. Once they are added, they don't get removed until you delete them.

Hi Alex!!!!!!!!!

Actually, we did not have a subscription to SongSelect. We had one to the CCLI Database. Its confusing. Is your new church a member of CCLI? Do they subscribe to their database? I think it was fairly cheap for a year's subscription to it. I think you pretty much have to subscribe anyways. I'm not sure how it works.
