SongShow Plus questions

I'm brand new to this forum, so glad I found you! I'm a photographer with only intermediate knowledge of graphics software, but I'm learning fast. Our media person left our church and I've been drafted to run SongShowPlus, version 7. I have lots of questions, I hope someone can help. Feel free to speak English to me, I don't understand techspeak.
In SongShow, is it possible to change the display properties of an image file, save the edited file, and then, when you want to use it, be able to fade it in behind song lyrics that are already displaying on the screen? I like to be able to add a pan/zoom motion across a still image, but I can't get that to work, either.
Also, is it possible to put up an image on the screen, during instrumental worship music for example, and then bring up song lyrics on top of it?
Does anyone know of a good tutorial for Songshow besides the one that comes with the program?
I'll keep the rest of the questions for another time. Thanks for any help you can give.
Sue

I know that Pan/Zoom has been playing up on a few SongShow builds.

As for putting a image up on the screen, Background improv, at the button of your screen you will see your videos, and on the left hand side of that box you will see the word images, click that and navigate to where the iamge is and click the green arrow.

Viola!

I might work on a few tutorials for SongShow in the coming weeks.

Hi!!!!!!!! Welcome to a fellow photographer. Have you been over to the ssplash forums to ask them about your questions about SSP? The website is: www.ssplash.com As for putting the lyrics up and then gradually bringing in a background, I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do. Do you want to start with a completely black background and then use an image? I think background improv could do that, but that gets pretty complicated. Why not just use a subtle opaque type background or one that kind of moves slightly behind the words? You can use a very dark image and then lay video on top of it and set the opacity on it so it looks really nice.

Also, I love the pan and zoom effect.

Once a song is displayed and being shown, if you push the white rectangle, it will clear the lyrics so that only the picture or video is still there. I use that a lot.

Have a great day!

thanks

I appreciate the ideas, it's so encouraging to know I have some where to turn. I'm kinda on my own learning this. Karen, I just tried the clear toggle for the first time. Very cool. I can drop the lyrics and keep the image. That's one effect I'll be using. How do you "lay video over an image" as you mentioned?
I'm using SongShow workstation mode on my home computer and nothing from background improv seems to display on the "practice monitor." To add to my difficulties, any display properties using motion won't work. SongShow gives me an alert saying Direct X9 not installed. I've reinstalled Direct X and rebooted the computer to no avail. buggy, buggy, buggy
All I want to do is have an image slide with motion displayed during worship instrumentals and then when we start singing I want to put the words up over the same image. Maybe I can put the image up (assuming I fix the directx problem) and then also add it as the background to the lyrics? It won't be technically staying up on the screen, but when I bring up the lyrics the image will come back. I think?
Okay, one step at a time, we'll figure this out. God does love to stretch me.....
Thanks all
Sue

Sue,

What are the specs of the workstation PC you are using?

In particular your Video card

This could be driectly related to your DirectX9 issue

um, oh dear, now you're gonna know the truth: I'm pretty illiterate about the deeper workings of my computer. Where do I find the specs for my video driver?

Lucas, I've found several video codex's listed in the control panel under device manager. Are those what you're looking for?

The eisyies way is to go
Start> Run

and type in "dxdiag" without the quotes

on the menu that pops up at the bottom of it is "save all information"

select that

save it to your desktop, or anywhere else you can find it

open the file

copy it, and paste it in a post here

That's the easy way

Sue,

The whole thing is easier to use, Let's me see every detail, at the moment I'm thinking it may be a hardware issue, not a codec issue

If you don't feel comfortable putting the whole thing live on the net you can email it to me at

Sue,

Please go to the forums at www.ssplash.com. Seriously. The creators of Songhow Plus even hang out there and there are very knowledgeable computer guys that can help you out way more than I can. Once we get past the hardware issues, I can help you, but I am not that great with computer hardware.
