Lo budget scaler

My church has a newly installed Lo budget projection system. We want to use a DVD player to show videos and bypass the computer. The computer’s DVD-ROM plays ok but is hard to cue up at the right time and can't hide the player control buttons. We don’t want to invest in an expensive switcher scaler right now. Has anyone ever used an AV Toolbox AVT-3340 XGA Up Converter. We are using XGA projectors.
