Switcher/scaler advice sought

I need some advice on switcher/scalers that would help our situation. We have a failing Extron System 5 CR+ in our Sanctuary that does not reliably change between input sources. Actually, the SW in the switch was modified by the installer to make the remote control work with the projectors that they sold us (don't ask!). It worked fine for a while, but now, when you switch from computer, to VCR, to DVD, you never know if it will or not.

I think the best thing to do is to abandon the switch in place - leave the existing switch in the "computer" position and provide its input from another switcher scaler.

So what should I get? The System 5 has 5 inputs and we use 4 of them. We have an Extron ISS 408 in our Praise Center that works really well, but it has 8 inputs and that is overkill. I've looked into the Extron ISS 506, but it seems a bit pricey for what we need. Any other suggestions?

Since you're on the extron route, I would suggest the system 7sc. It will take a max. of seven signals, and output a max. of two. (RGBHV, VGA) The main reason why I like it so much is that it has front panel ports for just about anything you'd ever use. (VGA, Composite, S-video) Plus, it will handle projector power control if you link your projector up to it via serial cable. This switcher/scaler is very useful when you have somebody bring in their laptop and need it to be hooked up to your projection system quickly.
