Hello Every one. My name is Tim Comer and I am the A/V everything at my church Lakeside Fellowship Church in Mooresville,N.C.
I thought my story was somewhat unique but after being on this site I have found that may not be the case.
Three years ago I joined the A/V team. At that time the team consisted of an older couple and 2 youth. We were doing a CD recording of the sermon for our archive and running Easy Worship during the service.
Last March we got a new pastor and he brought with him a zeal for using any media to spead the word of God. Our first issue was our website. It was outdated and not being maintained. I took over the site and redesigned to match the conservative style of my church.
The pastor wanted all of our audio sermons to be posted to our site. I started using Audacity to create MP3s and would upload them to the site. It was not long and our Pastor brought his Sony Handycam from home and wanted to start filming the video and uploading it as well.
Prior all this I had had limited experience with webdesign and none with web media and really had a ton of learning and experiments to get to where we are now.
Shortly after we started uploading the video to the site the older couple "retired" from the A/V team and the youth's family left the church leaving me basicly alone to do it all. Funny thing is I really have no clue as to what I am doing.LOL
We now have 2 professional cameras running, no longer make the CDs for archive as everything is on the website. And we are planning on going on TV at the beginning of July 2012.
Please pray for us. As of now, I have 1 partime adult that helps run the Easy Worship and some of the editing and uploading. If he is not at church on Sunday morning I usually try to grab one of the kids in the church to run the EW while I run everything else.
This has definately been a challenge, but I have learned alot and had a good bit of fun in the process.
Welcome Tim! You are in the midst of quite an adventure! It would probably be a good time to do a SWOT analysis so you can build strength and avoid future burnout and other issues.
SWOT is Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Make a column for each, and write brief notes about anything you think fits in each column pertaining to media ministry. Work on that for a while, put it down and come back to it a couple of times.
When you think you have all four components covered, ask God for vision on how to deal with the weaknesses and threats, and how to leverage and grow the strengths and opportunities. Then you can begin to put together a strategic plan to present with your pastor. Make sure it remains in alignment with vision and mission for the church.
Let us know how things are going, and welcome again!
Hi Tim, I too am in Mooresville, at Shearer Presbyterian Church. Wouldn't it be great to form an area group of AV techs to share information and praise God for the opportunity to serve him through this technology? Give me a call David Christian 704-7065432
