| I found you guys My story has been fun and definitely not where I would have pictured myself even six months ago. Several years ago my wife and I were leading worship at a church in the Chicago suburbs. She was the music director and I was a mere vocalist. She would put together the slides for worship songs every Sunday. It seemed she'd always have questions and with me being a computer geek I was the one she would turn to. Let me explain my computer geekiness... I'm a Windows server admin - I didn't know anything about PowerPoint. However I do know Google and am able to understand Windows Help Over the years of 'helping' I became quite proficient at using PowerPoint and would make my own slides for special music. Through a series of events at the church I became the sound guy - you know computers you must know how to do sound Other responsibilities of that team were video and lighting. I was able to transition them from using PowerPoint for everything to EasyWorship. We didn't use lighting regularly, but we had a few special events that required it - so I learned DMX at a very basic level. Played with a few different lighting controllers. And, I was still leading worship during all this. Without going into details - we left the church the end of last year (we stayed there until the chaos that is Christmas music season was over). We started to attend another church and both became involved in the music ministry there. My wife had volunteered one of the presentations I had put together for the song 'Slow Fade' and people loved it (I look at it now, and it is so basic). I was approached by one of the pastors to start a media arts team. I don't consider myself 'creative'. I seek inspiration from others and modify to fit our needs - reverse engineering if you will. I'm having a blast right now. I'm still involved with leading worship but it isn't as demanding of my time as it was at the other church. I don't have any real guidelines that I need to adhere to - just keep the focus on God and enhance (or don't detract) from worship. I can't wait to start playing with different programs and seeing what they can do. |

| I'm in Missouri. Got started 4 years ago by being ask if I would be willing to run the show after someone else built it, said ok - a month went by and guess what, he wanted to teach me becuase he needed to go out of town for a couple weeks, ok, I tried, few more months went by, he moves out of town and I find myself in charge!!! So I attended a Midnight Oil creative workshop for two days, and started the ministry. It is going well, have built a team and even the older ladies at the traditional service say they love the pictures I use and that is a miracle in itself. Praise God! Dorothy |
