Screen format (16:9 or 16:10)

What screen format would you recommend for projection in church (mostly powerpoint)
I know 4:3 is going the way of the dodo...
16:9 is up and coming
16:10 is a common computer format. Sort of between 4:3 & 16:9

We are working on a new facility layout. Right now, I think the screen location is designed for 4:3, but I would like to go more future proof with widescreen, Even if we only project a 4:3 image at first.

Anyway, space is tight, and 16:10 would not be quite as wide for the same height screen.

Any insight?

Simple. 16:9!

This is the way broadcast video is going (or gone) and new content is usually designed for the 16:9 format these days.

I'm not quiet sure why computer manurfactures put out machines with 16:10, but i'd disregard that format.

Most projectors are still native 16:10 but it looks like the shift is going to 16:9. Ofcourse if you want to really future tolerant then go 2048x1080.

Ha, and how about 3840x2160p?
That is exactly 4x the resolution of 1920x1080p
and 9x the resolution of 1280x720p

So 1080 & 720 material can be displayed on the same screen without any interpolation...

No Body will be moving to quad HD except for Doctors for the next 6 years but 2k panels are already being sold overseas.

All kidding aside Go with what works. Whatever you do make sure you have plenty of lumens on that screen.

Most Pro AV Projectors with a native wide screen resolution are 16:10 while the Home theater and higher end 1080P are 16:9.
The question boils down to what type of brightness are you looking for? We find most affordable commercial projectors are 16:10 and cap out around 5000 Lumens. If you need a much brighter projection and cant afford a high end projector like a Christie or Barco you can get a 4:3 projector up to 15,000 lumens relatively reasonably priced and run it in 16:9 mode we have customers who do it all the time. Oh and by the way SXGA+ projectors look awesome native reolution of 1400 x 1050

Actually WUXGA projectors go up as high(lumen wise) as 1080 projectors so that's not a limiting factor. I would doubt that anything over WXGA or 720 would be required unless the screens are really large or close to the audience.
