I have a client that does it for aesthetic reasons. You can look at my latest design thread or go to my website and check out pics of CLife church. They didn't want to use motorized screens and still wanted the screens to disappear when not in use. It works fine for them, but they went a bit oversize on their screens for the space. They do video, lyrics, etc and it is all readable and looks great. They lose some very fine detail and some darker graphics just will not work, but overall it works for them and when the projectors are not on you wouldn't even know they had projectors.
