Background

Hey, this is my first time posting and was wondering if anyone could help me find some black backgrounds for our church. Is there any companies that you know I could find something like this. We are looking for black type curtains to put behind our band because right now it is white and not the best. Any help would be great.

we have had pretty good success with purchasing lightly used theatrical curtains by making calls to the people who sell and install them. They are almost always taking the old stuff with them as the school or church etc. just does not have a place to reuse them.

you can see by many posts here that many of us are friends with the joann fabrics stores. depending on how much or what you need she can be a life saver.

....and everybody's getting their backdrops treated with flame retardant before hanging them, right? Fire code- it's important.

Whatrigger is here now too, I see! Welcome!

Basic options are pipe-and-drape and conventional legs (or a full black). Even cheaper is black paint.

Your cheapest option would Duvytene, which is inherently flame retardant. I use this stuff like crazy and like to keep 20 yards lying around just incase. Now the more attractive approach would be to use velour in a 18oz or heavier but you will spend some money to make that happen.

Some companies to look at include

Rosebrand
Texas Scenic

Thanks for the help. There is just the one problem for me is that I am in the Bahamas so it is not like I can run out and grab some of these things. So I guess I was looking more for some sites I could just go to and order what I need. Will check the two that was posted though.

I like Rose Brand, too. Good solid stuff. But then again, Duv looks good from almost any distance under the right lights.

Think of it this way: from a distance, it will look far away.

The Rosebrand folks are very helpful and knowledgeable. Depending on the size of your stage and hanging/rigging options, you could also ask a lighting integration company such as Barbizon for advice.
