Really this needs to be a "jokes" section...

I am picking my jaw up off of the floor after reading an article about products from AudioQuest.

Anyone here of them, or (and I'll be shocked) purchase their cables?

I'm talking about things like this:

5 meter long HDMI cabe, 2695 each? (no, I didn't leave out the decimal, here it is: $2,694.75
Amazon.com: Diamond HDMI Digital Audio/Video...Amazon.com: Diamond HDMI Digital Audio/Video...

6' Ac power cable, yeah, regular power cables, $6,899.75 !!!
Amazon.com: AudioQuest NRG WEL Signature Series 6...Amazon.com: AudioQuest NRG WEL Signature Series 6...

Ok, have they discovered something since I tool electronics in high school and college?

This really reminds me of being at best buy years ago, and listen to a sales person actually tell a customer in reference to gold plated parallel printer cable "say your printer prints 2 pages per minute with a regular cable, it would do like 5 per minute with this one"

So the experts here, who are still active in these fields (I now only do application development), would you laugh at these items as well?

Their site: http://www.audioquest.com/

-Greg

PS. Interesting, I like how the forum now recognizes amazon links and format them!

Reminds me of the I Am Rich iPhone app.

And the reviews on those pages are hilarious! An example from the HDMI page:

Quote:
First off, I bought one of these for my $200 19" Visio. It displays 720P, but NOT ANY MORE!!!

When I got this cable, it came wrapped in bacon, which I thought was pretty weird, but shrugged it off, slid off my recliner into my Rascal, scooted from the living room to the kitchenette, and started cooking my bacon-wrapping.

As the smell of delicious pork back filled my double-wide, I turned around to look again at the box the cable came in...
lolz!

It is amazing to see how they flat out lie (just like the Best Buy guy did in the original post). This is taken from a PDF on their website:

Quote:
All audio cables are directional, including HDMI. The correct direction is determined through listening to every batch of metal used in every AudioQuest audio cable. Care is even taken to run the conductors used in the Audio
Return Channel in the opposite direction to ensure the best performance for that application. Arrows are clearly marked on the plugs to insure you get the best sound quality.
Really... so you "listen" to every HDMI cable before you put an end on it so that you know which way the sound can run on that cable. LIE! LIE LIE!

Oh, and the above was taken from a 14 page PDF called HDMI Demystified where, on one of the last pages, it says "HDMI is the most advanced connection method available today, but its complexity can often be intimidating. Hopefully, this educational module answered some questions." Really. So you think a 14 page document helps explain what an HDMI cable does less "intimidating" than "It is a cable that passes audio and video from one device to another."????

My other favorite line on their website is when they say "INDULGE YOURSELF!" (Note: I did not put that in all-caps.)

*sigh*

Cables are rather like plumbing. You can use copper pipes or gold pipes, but they will both deliver the water to your tap!
