Projecting advice

We are trying to setup a projector at our church. And, get this... you won't believe it but we have a limited budget. Weird, huh?

Anyway I was looking at the ViewSonic PRO8500. I am concerned though with how I am going to get the signal back to our 'media booth'. ViewSonic has two wireless options...

1. ViewSonic WPD-100 USB Wireless Adapter.

2. WPG-360.

I am concerned about streaming video this way. The WPG-360 says it will stream video at 720P. Sounds too good to be true to me. Will that work?

If I can't do it wirelessly how do I run the cord? It would mostly be used for powerpoint type stuff but I DO want the option of video. It would be about 80' from projector to computer. I'm only a low level geek so simple words spoken slowly would be appreciated

I would avoid wireless. Just not dependable enough and when you have a problem there is nothing you can do about it.

If you use a quality VGA cable then 80 ft is not a problem. We use active VGA extenders and they have worked well for many years. If I had it to do over again I think I would have gone with the Extron brand. They cost a little more but after using the cheaper ones for years the small color inaccuracies are bugging me a little.

Well, the product data says that it "Supports resolutions up to 1024x768 and full-motion video up to 720p.", however the specifications also note that it supports 1400x1050, 1280x800, 1024x768 and 800x600 output resolutions, it apparently does not actually support the 1280x720 resolution that is 720p. According to the product data it also supports both 100mbps wired Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n wireless networking but it is not clear which of these transmission methods any of the specifications are based on or how they might be affected by wired versus wireless operation or the actual data rate available.

That is somewhat an inherent issue with wireless systems as the actual conditions in the field and the resulting performance may differ significantly, however the overall impression is that in typical marketing fashion the WPG-360 performance noted may not only not be possible under all operating conditions but some aspects may also be mutually exclusive, e.g. even under ideal conditions you may not be able to get 1400x1050 or 1280x800 resolution and "full-motion video", whatever that is. The actual performance in any particular application may be very dependent on the specifics of that application

So I would be OK with just a high end VGA cable straight up?

No extenders or stretchers or nuclear pushers?

Yes, for sure.

These are the best deal I've found for good quality.
