Saving Associations Between Songs and Background

Hello, all!

Our church is getting a projection system installed within the next two months (we have nothing video-related at all currently so we're all very excited!) and we've decided to go with ProPresenter to drive it.

So, being the guy whose job it is to train everyone, I wanted to get some of our songs created onto slides (and just learn the software) ahead of time.

There's a lot of great resources out there, but I'm really struggling to find an answer to my biggest question so far:

How do I save a background to a song so that when I load the song up next time, the background is there with it and I don't have to first open the media bin and select a background? Everytime I open up a song/presentation, it's on a black background and I'd imagine that, during service time, we shouldn't have to click all these extra times to get the next song queued up AND select the video to go with it; I would imagine that each song could have a default video that I'd want to go with unless we wanted to make a change 'at game time'.

Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm just missing something obvious!

I can't help yopu with ProPresenter, but, FWIW:

>>So, being the guy whose job it is to train everyone,

Having been "trained" and having done a lot of training - remember, you know where the pointer is because you already know the program - the people you are training don't, so
Quote:
"click on this then click on that which opens this and select that and right click...."
leaves people befuddled and frustrated.

I do screen shots of each step, add my own prominent arrows in the screen shots pointing to the cursor.

Then I use the screen shots in my training and in a manual.

And in the training I pause to make each person sees what I mean in any given step.

And then I have each person (usually in individual sessions) do it themselves.

This is easy, simply select and drag the background you want to the first slide of the presentation and it will be linked to that song/presentation. You can also have different backgrounds for every slide if you want. If want to change it later to a different background- just drag a new background to the first slide and it replaces your original choice. If you want to eliminate you choice, right click on the slide and select that from the pop up menu.

There are also a lot of great training videos on renewed visions web site, check them out here

Unfortunately, dragging the background didn't work for me. However, some deeper searches showed that, for some reason, control-click would let me drag. Very non-intutive, but it works just great now.

Not sure if that's unique to the PC version or just something screwy on my hend.

On a Mac, it's Command-drag. It makes sense because, for a large number of things in the program, Command (Control on PC) is the Edit Modifier key. It delegates your action to the edit mode rather than the performance control mode.

I didn't know you were running it on a PC, I run it on a Mac so it's just click hold and drag. Glad you got it figured out though.

As has been pointed out, Control-Click for Windows allows you to drag any thumbnail (media or slide) in Pro4 PC; it's Command-Click on Mac. In Pro5 (both versions) you no longer have to do this and can simply click-and-drag slides or media as necessary.

All of this is covered in the user guide (I wrote the user guide, so I made sure it was covered). I work for RenewedVision. Going to try to show up in these forums a bit more.

Thanks, everyone, for your time and attention on this!

One follow-up question though:

Most of the slide creation will be done on my home PC and then the work will be transferred to our projection computer. However, assuming I have the same media on both computers, what's the best way to be able to add backgrounds/videos/whatever to slides at home and also have the media associated (and findable!) by the computer when I transport them to the projection PC? I can't guarantee that the media would have the same exact full path on both computers.

Thanks!

Bundling a playlist will include the media as long as you check the box to include media.

Use the built in sync function to snyc to a USB hard drive. Sync up at your church, bring the external drive home, sync up at home - edit away. When done, sync back to your external drive, head over to your church, sync to your external drive.

Lather, rinse, repeat

For the really lazy, sync to a drive on your file server. At home open VPN connection and sync to the same folder on your file server
