Propresenter to do work of video switcher

I was wondering if I could get propresenter to do the work of a video mixer. I was thinking of feeding camera into mac with pro presenter and output to internet and video distributor. Is this possible?

Just a single camera, or multiple cameras?

For what purpose? You will have latency if you use a firewire and that's really bad for imag. For recording, maybe.

It will be a single camera for now, but would like to have two cameras, for different angles. The live video would be for live streaming and for 2 nursery rooms, what would be projected in the main sanctuary would not be live video, only background loops, video and text.

Theoretically speaking it can be done, but whether its the best way to do it, or the most cost effective in the longer term is certainly questionable.

As I understand it, a BlackMagic DeckLink card is the only way to do it without a visible delay.

For which you need a Mac Pro. So, Mac Pro, plus multiple decklink cards, for multiple input sources........it soon becomes not so cost effective. Plus there is the difficulty of trying to use ProPresenter for something it was not designed for.

ProPresenter's live video features leave MUCH to be desired, like all the other presentation software that claims to offer this feature.

I'm pretty sure multiple live feeds aren't even possible through ProPresenter.

Yes, a video mixer is pretty much required for any live video.

We are researching video mixers for future camera operations and feeds to blackmagic and PP4. We have considered Edirol, Videotronic and other composite mixers, but concerned whether the video quality will be good enough for projection after passed through the Mac Pro.

Anyone share their experiences with and recommend a mixer to review?

I work at a large church that incorporates four cameras, so pro-presenter just won't do. If you are okay with only using one camera for a sermon or something, I know that pro-presenter can work very effectively. A friend of mine works at a very small church and they run one HD camera through pro-presenter for their sermons and it works very well.
