Mac output settings to XGA projector

I have a new Macbook Pro with propresenter 3. All our videos and stuff are 720p. From system preferences in the mac, I can't select 1280 x 720 as an output to our projector (Panasonic XGA DLP PT-D5600U).

The closest the mac allows me to send is 1280 x 768 (WXGA). What settings should I use? Also, what should I set the input resolution on the projector to?

Thanks,

Aaron

General rule of thumb is to have use the projector's native input as the computer's output. That way you don't have to rely on whatever cheap scalar the projector manufacturer included.

ProPresenter should be able to be told whether to stretch the output to the projectors frame or to letterbox it. But that's just an educated guess, based on how other worship software works.

Wow guys - thanks for the quick replies. Cory, when you say "upscale" do you mean the output setting on the mac?

Joel's guess is correct - ProP 3 will stretch to fill the screen. Its a setting under the preferences menu.

Aaron,

In System Preferences>Displays you will only be able to select resolutions that the display device (projector) specifies it can handle. If you don't see 1280x720, then the projector has told the computer that it can't handle that resolution. As Joel said, your best bet is to set the resolution to the native resolution of the device (which is usually, but not always, the highest resolution listed).

As for ProPresenter, it has it's own resolution setting in ProPresenter>Preferences>Display which you should generally match to the output screen's resolution (by clicking the Fullscreen button). Background video scaling is determined globally by "Preserve Backgrounds Aspect Ratio" in ProPresenter>Preferences>Display. Foreground video scaling is set on a per clip basis with the default setting "Preserve Aspect Ratio on New Foreground Video" also in ProPresenter>Preferences>Display.

Thanks
