CD Inkjet Printer for CD's

Hello!

First time poster here! I'm not sure if this thread is in the right section, so I apologize ahead of time if that's the case.

Our church is currently using lightscribe to burn our labels, but we are looking to upgrade to something more professional. I don't know much about inkjet printers, or color laser printers or anything like that, but I was hoping someone could suggest a printer that would make our CD's look like any DVD or CD you would purchase from a store.

We're on a budget, so we're looking for something that's $200 -a few hundred, not something in the thousands.

If anyone has any information on this, I would appreciate it greatly, thanks!

We order pre-printed CDs and DVDs that look AMAZING, they have a nice coat over the graphic and everything.

When we actually distribute the disks we print a clear plastic label to go on top. The label isn't 100% professional, but I think that most people understand that we run less than 10 disks of each Sunday, so it isn't a problem. We made this decision three years ago and at the time it was the best blend of price and professionalism that we could find.

Sorry that I can't actually answer your question, just thought I would pass along what we are doing.

Matthew

Hmm yeah, that's an interesting idea. Like you, we only actually produce a handful of CD's every week, so it's not like we need some elaborate machine that can produce dozens of them at a time.

Thanks for the information!

At a former job I printed DVD's on a cheap HP printer and they looked great. It was an all-in-one that I'm sure you can't buy anymore but any new one should do fine.

I made my graphics in Photoshop, saved them as s jpeg and used the HP software that came with the printer to print them. You can print them before or after burning the disk so you can be ready to go for the weekend by pre-printing.

Epson makes the Artisan 700 and 800 series printers which work great and then they also make the Photo R220. I've used both printers and they both work very good.

Also you can get printable discs from Staples and most other places that sell blank CD's and DVD's.

And understand that you must get PRINTABLE discs as this will not print on just any old disc.

We have Epson Artisan 50 that i bought from Fry's for $100 about 2 years ago. Still works fine, we print about 25-30 disks per week. Like other cheap epson printers, its slow, but works fine for us. Quality is very good for the price of printer.

Thanks for the replies guys!

How long does it take these discs to print usually? Faster than lightscribe I hope?

Roughly 90 seconds a disc for full color. It's much quicker if you are only doing black text.
