A Walk to Emmaus and a Via De Cristo weekend are very similar. If you reveal too much about your experience, it lessens the impact on the life the of one who goes on the weekend, IMHO.

I was hesitant to go until someone asked me if I trusted the people that were encouraging me to go. That sealed it for me.

It's kept somewhat under wraps because to reveal things about it would be to lessen the experience of what Walk to Emmaus is. And more than that, to a large degree, trying to describe my experience would be difficult to put into words. It really is that transformative. Other than my decision to follow Christ, I've not had a more significant period in my life. I'm incredibly thankful to God for my "walk". I recommend that if you are asked to go, you do all in your power to do so, no matter what you may have to sacrifice. It will be insignificant to what is gained. De colores!
