play flv in powerpoint

I'd like to be able to play flv (flash video files) in powerpoint. Anyone know how to do this with minimal frustration?

the only thing I've found is a converter, and then I'd import into ppt.

What I'd really like is a free plug-in that plays flv's in ppt.

You could do this.

Download Riva FLV Encoder (Freeware)
http://www.download.com/Riva-FLV-Enc...=dl&tag=button

While Riva converts to FLV by default, it can convert from FLV as well.

Install the program and select the FLV in the “Input Video” box.

The “Output Directory” will be automatically selected, as will the filename for the “Destination Video File.” By default it is the .flv extension, but just change this to .mpg.

Click “Encode”. This may take a while depending on how powerful your machine is.

Now you can import the .mpg into PPT as an embedded video. NOTE: POWERPOINT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY SAVE THE VIDEO AS PART OF THE PRESENTATION. The video file will need to be in the same folder as
your PPT file.

I found a much easier way of doing it. Look for my post under computer software I think called "Youtube Coldmine". There is an online free service in which you input the url of the video, and the web site converts it for you into any number of formats. It then lets you download the file from their website.

Otherwise, I tried the control option, but it won't play flv files. I've been embedding swf files in powerpoint for years, but have yet to find a free easy way to embed flv files.

Riva FLV Encoder
I like this- it is easy and powerful, but can be slow.

I have been using Pazera (look here: http://www.download.com/Pazera-Free-...-10786669.html ) to convert my flv's to a format that ppt likes. Before I started converting, I simply hyperlinked to the flv file that would open and play in real player. Once, when I forgot to set-up the hyperlink, I simply used the handy-dandy alt-tab to switch in-between the two.

mikedude - that information you linked to is about swf's.. not flv's.

I have not tried this, but daveturner's comment about a free plug-in prompted a google search and... this plug-in ( http://www.mp3-converter.biz/codecs/PlayFLV-65.html ) claims to let Window's Media Player play flv's... which still isn't PowerPoint... but it's a step in the right direction, n'est pas?

OK. I've tried RIVA and followed the instructions above and it fails. It says there may be a codec problem.

And I tried Panzera, but it only grabs the audio, not the vide.

Any help out there?

I want to direct you to an article that may address your issue on a website, but the forum just don't allow me to add link in my post!
You can add by yourself to the following address(add http and 3w on it):
