Wedding Mosaic

Here is a photomosaic I created out of several hundred pictures I took at my daughter's wedding recently. I also used images from the slide show I produced (scans from old photo albums) as seed images.

I used an interesting program called Centarsia. It's no longer available though. The developer was given a C&D by some software company and rather than fight he just pulled his 'free' program. It wasn't actually free - you had to send the author a picture postcard before he would send you the registration code.

The way it works is you gather up a large group of photos (da mo da betta). These become the 'pixels' that your mosaic is drawn with. You can pick the size of the 'pixels' and then convert them to the tiny images. You then pick a master image and the program re-draws it with your collection of 'pixels'. There are a lot of commercial applications for creating mosaics like this and some make very cool websites that allow you to zoom into the actual tiny images by clicking on them.

HERE is a good comparison of some of the current offerings.

Here is another Centarsia mosaic I did probably 5 years ago of the Squeezers. These are pretty small, but you get the idea.

There is another free program that I believe is still available called "Andrea Mosaic". It works best when you have a folder with at least 200 photos in it.

Andrea Mosaic program is on the LIST that I linked to above. It is still available, but I have no idea if it's supported. I looked at it briefly and thought the UI was bit 'strange'........ (c8
