Church Directory

I am looking into to options to create and print a directory for my church. I have a Mac and was wondering if anyone has done this and what they found to be the easiest and best way to do this.

You can do it yourself

I don't have a Mac, but we printed our own picture directory; a looseleaf 9x5 size.
Each family is on a page (half page letter size) that can be removed or added in at any time. We printed in black and white to save printing costs ... printed on my laser printer. A member of our church took the pictures. The Olan Mills salesman is not too happy with us. I'm sure you could set up different formats that would work for you.

It's easiest to have a church management software program that keeps track of everything. We use CDM+...

Hi, I saw your post about doing a church directory in photoshop and wanted to know if you could answer a few questions. I have been approached by a senior member of our church which used to be a professional portrait photographer. We have a 700+ member church and have in the past had a professional hired photographer take photos and put together a directory of our members. We usually do this about every 5 years. The cost is quite substantial and we usually have to order a fixed amount with little option of getting any reprinted should we run short so we usually wind up with many extra.

They have all the equipment and I have the camera so taking the photos isn't really an issue. My major hang up right now is how you keep up with all the peoples names and link them to the correct photo then get all those into a printable form. What did you do to keep up with that? With 700 members there are faces I can't put with names.

Please if anyone else has any suggestions I'd live to here from you.

I would also like to see your PDF.

Thank You

Yell

Well, we have a church of about 200. I have lived in the area all my life. We all know each other, I did not have that problem. Send me an IM with your email and I will send you my PDF

Since you said you were using a Mac, you should take a look at Bento. Lighter version of FileMaker Pro which is a database program.

You should be able to set up Bento with all of the congregational members, snap a photo to associate and then setup output pages to print. Once you have the entire set printed to pdf you should be able to get any print house to take care of the physical copies.

FileMaker is an awesome tool for this kind of stuff but is quite pricey. You can download a trial of Bento and if you feel you could make it work it isn't particularly pricey.

Good luck.
