Simple video editing on PC

I'm testing a simple edit set up on the church's PC - unfortunately, I'm fluent with Mac set ups. Working with a trial of Adobe Premiere Elements, the QuickTime video clips I brought in won't import (these are 1080p but that matches the import settings and exported from Final Cut). Error message reads: codec missing or unavailable. It attempts to open through "Video Importer" but the import fails.

I'm testing to see if the app is functional with this PC's technical specs for one thing. All major specs appeared to be sufficient with a few unknown items I couldn't track down. What could be the problem? Thanks!

Make sure the PC has the latest available version of Quicktime, which as of this post is 7.6.9 (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/)

Adobe Premiere Elements should support common Quicktime file (.mov, .mp4, etc.)

Thanks. QT Player should be fine though. But... could there be a default setting for the import app? I just don't know my way around a PC like I do a Mac. And don't have much time to putter with it.

Maybe so, but when you are dealing with Quicktime files in any app on a PC, you want to make sure PC's installed version of Quicktime for Windows is current. Adobe Elements is probably trying to use the codec associated with the Quicktime version on the PC. If the PC has an older version of Quicktime, there could be compatibility issues with importing/rendering Quicktime (.mov/.mp4) files. For argument's sake what version of Quicktime does the PC have?

Per Adobe product specs... Quicktime version 7 is required (see link to Adobe product page in previous post).

I shall take a closer look next time I'm there, though it's a recent installation - these are revised fairly often.

Search for and install one of the K-Lite Codec Packs for Windows. They're packaged installs of just about every major video codec.

+1 on this suggestion. QuickTime isn't real good about sharing it codecs with other Windows applications.

Very true. However, K-Lite Codec pack and/or Quicktime Alternative are stripped down or one-off versions of the true codec for .mov files. While K-Lite and Quicktime Alternative may work and work well. Why would you not use the actual codec that Abode designed their software to utilize and actually recommends? If we were just talking about playback in some media player I would wholeheartedly agree, but when you start utilizing the codec in terms of NLE application like Adobe Premiere (or Elements in this case), I'd still stick with the original Quicktime codec.
