DVD quality decrease problem

hey guys i really need your help. at my church we use a sony DVcam dsr pd170. i have a problem with making the final product after editing (non-linear). i need a way in which i can product the DVD without compromising the picture quality. i use ulead to edit and i always have to minimise the quality of the picture when putting it on dvd. would editing then putting the project back onto tape then connecting the camera to a DVD recorder and transfering to DVD help me get the quality i want. please help.

Welcome brother. While we do not know the details of your current workflow. I would suggest that all things being equal, your suggested alternate workflow is NOT the answer!

What edit software are you using (oh, OK, I see uLead), and are you digitizing at DV quality?

What DVD authoring software are you using?

How long (hours and minutes) is a typical program length on your DVD's?

What level of compression are you applying (that is, what bandwidth are you permitting for the MPEG-2 file) to your video stream during DVD authoring?

I'd say Adobe Encore is probably one of the best DVD authoring titles out there.

Hi there,
Could we know your name? I'm Hsien from Singapore.
I'm guessing you don't want to spend too much money and you're on the PC Platform.
I've used Adobe Premiere Elements for simple edits and would recommend it.

Hi Nhlanhla,
Read your other thread.
Maybe you could consider recording direct to DVD? (with no editing involved)
You could still buy editing software but you would use it only for special occasions.
For normal sunday recordings you could use the DVD recorder, it would save you lots of time.

Hi Nhlanhla,
You need to purchase a dvd recorder like this.
http://www.edreams.co.za/store/elect..._DVD_Recorder/

On the Sony PD170 there is a composite video output which you can connect with a video cable to the input of the DVD recorder.

I think I'd avoid switching media as much as possible. You should be able to get good compression. I'd maximize everything in every step.
