Final Cut studio on a macbook

So we have been editing on a macbook in iMovie for a little bit and we know how to use final cut studio and even have it installed on the macbook but we also know we are limited due to the lack of a stand alone graphics card and the processing power of it. We are at the point where we are using it, but it takes FOREVER to render and export (up to 5 or 6 hours in some cases) for not that long of a project.

Now I know the best solution is to get a bigger and badder machine and we are looking into that but was curious if there was anything we could do to speed up the process of the rendering and the exporting for the time being?

Well, tell us a little about your workflow and we'll see if we can find you some time-saving tips.

Where is your video coming from?
How are you capturing it?
What EasySetup are you using?
What are you doing to the video once it's in Final Cut?
What do you do with the video when you're done editing?

If you're footage and editing in FCP does not require rendering and is being rendered in real time, exporting should not take that long as long as resolutions are not changing. Are you using the QuickTime export, or exporting using Compressor?

We have two different cameras we capture from on that we record ad to a dv tape and the other is I believe a Sony xdcam with a 40gig hard drive. Now what I don't know what easy setup we are using but I will check on that as soon as I can. As far for once it is in final cut we edit it. We have not used a lot of effects so far due to the time it takes but we would like to be able to do some effects and step up our game. After we are done with it we export to QuickTime and then pull it into iDVD to make our DVD for service.

Did I answer it all? I have never setup final cut we have always just worked on a setup that wa already running.

I don't think the MacBook can do real time. Just doesn't have enough firepower and I realize this and hope soon we won't have to work on a MacBook but just trying to make sure I am doing everything right that I can do.
