I was reminded to Repair Permissions in Disk Utility. It still hung up after first disk of audio content for SoundTrack Pro, but this time it allowed me to select "cancel" install (which I couldn't do before). Then when I'm prompted to confirm the cancellation, I entered "no"... and now it's running fine. There's only 50GB left on the start up drive - much less than usual. Sounds like I need to do some clean up. I read that Studio 2 SoundTrack files default to a different location than those in Studio (1) and may be duplicated. I'll need to check if this has happened and wasting space.

For what it's worth, whenever possible, Final Cut apps should never be upgraded to a new major version; the suite should be completely removed and installed fresh. Same goes for the Adobe suites, and operating systems. Too many small things get left behind that will more than likely cause problems later.

The Audio Content, or any of the extra content for any of the studio apps can be pasted into the approriate folder, and the software will pick it up during its start up sequence. The programs have a slightly unusual file management for the extra content. Extra content for DVD studio pro and motion is stored in /library/application support/final cut studio/dvd Studio Pro or motion respectivly. You'd think that the other programs would have there own folder in /library/application support/final cut studio, but soundtrack pro and live type have their own folders located at /library/application support/soundtrack pro, /library/application support/live type. Depending on how the content is stored on the DVD, you may be able to do a copy and paste? Worth a try.
