Looking for animation software

I'm looking for something similar to this but perhaps cheaper? I've played around with Pivot Stickfigure Animator but I want something with a bit more features.

It can be done in powerpoint.

Check Harvey's Big Adventure

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

That's cute but I'm looking for something specifically for animation. It's mainly for my 12 year old son but I'd like to play with it too

serious overkill, but probably would do what you want with some more effort-and a lot more, is blender.

http://www.blender.org/

And the price is good-free!

For $60, I think Stickman looks great!

Some pretty robust tools for creating cutout type animation, which I think for kids will result in a much quicker level of satisfaction over a traditional cel animation program like: http://kids.toonboom.com

I played around this Pivot for a while, too. It was a bit weird to work and the Pivot forums are even weirder. Most everyone is making shoot 'em up stuff. blender may be a bit complicated, but it's free, and there's lots of good tutorials available. If you son is really interested in animation, blender can take him there. A Youtube user, superboy3, has a good starter series.

Blender is an amazing piece of free software. Remember the rule of software though: easy, powerful, cheap - pick two.
